Rezonja Wine Cellars Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon from Pine Mountain

It pleases me to announce the release of the current vintage from Rezonja Wine Cellars. This 2005 offering includes a new product, which I’m happy to say, ties the pride of the winery with my ancestral background. Eleganten was borne from my desire to produce a flag-ship Bordeaux blend as well as an aspiration to include an element from my parents home country of Slovenia. Eleganten encompasses both. I hope you will appreciate why I am excited about this culmination of idea and creation.

In addition, this year I am also reintroducing a 100% Merlot. This is in response to many of you who has asked when Merlot may yet again be available from RWC. Thank-you for your patience.
The backbone of the winery has always been my Cabernet Sauvignon, which this year has been groomed a bit as it stands nearly on its own with just a small splash of Merlot added to increase its complexity.

Even though there have been some very fun and interesting changes made with this year’s vintage of Rezonja Wine Cellars, one aspect will always be something that you can rely on, my wines show best with food…my other obsession!

About the Terroir of Pine Mountain in Alexander Valley

Pine Mountain is located about 10 miles northeast of Cloverdale, California, in the northernmost section of Alexander Valley. Our boutique Sonoma County winery sits high up on Pine Mountain at an elevation of 2000 feet, making it the highest winery in the county. This is meaningful because the winery is nestled in the midst of our grape supplier, Sky Pine Vineyards.

As a result, our wine is estate grown, which means there's no need to transport the grapes at harvest, and thus no deterioration of quality through transport. We also do our bottling at the winery.

The terroir is just as responsible for the unique character of our estate bottled, estate grown wine. For example, the hilly, challenging grades of Pine Mountain, coupled with the high-altitude here forces the vines to struggle for their water and nutrients. The result: an Alexander Valley Cab with deep colors and concentrated fruit flavors.

The Origins of My Winemaking Philosophy

To this day, I can recall helping my father make wine and listening to his tutelage of not letting even one drop fall to the floor. I carry forward the same veneration for the grape and the essence that only it can produce.

I have blended respect for my father's European winemaking artistry with a New World understanding of modern oenological techniques. This has enabled me to create wine that consistently expresses the terroir - which is the grape.

The philosophy of Rezonja Wine Cellars is simple - produce the best Cabernet Sauvignon blend that Alexander Valley can offer. I believe this only happens if you carefully make wine with your hands - which is why my production is strictly limited. This principle allows me to personally scrutinize every grape cluster, every drop that goes into your glass of wine...
